Crowns and Bridges

Crowns and Bridges

Crowns and bridges are placed over damaged or missing teeth to improve the appearance, shape or alignment of your smile. Crowns are tooth-shaped “caps” made of porcelain or ceramic that cover the tooth in need of repair. Bridges are used to replace missing teeth by anchoring caps to surrounding teeth.

How much do dental crowns cost?

There are many variables that influence the cost of dental crowns. Speak with your dental care team to discuss your specific needs. If you are uninsured, be sure to check out our Smiles360 Dental Savings Club for generous discounts on many common treatments.

Do you always have to have a crown with a root canal?

In most cases, we recommend a crown in conjunction with a root canal. Crowns add a tremendous level of strength and support. Teeth that require root canal therapy are generally at high risk for fracture without the strength of a crown.

Is it painful to have a crown put on your tooth?

Before your procedure, you’ll receive an injection of lidocaine or another local anesthetic in your gums. After the procedure is over and the anesthesia has worn off, you may feel some sensitivity or some soreness in the gums around the tooth. The pain is very minimal and shouldn’t last long.

How long is a crown supposed to last?

Generally, dental crowns last 5-15 years. We’ve seen some crowns last much longer — up to 25 or 30 years! Most dental insurances will cover the cost if the crown needs to be replaced after  the first five years.
