Bone grafting is a procedure that stabilizes or replaces bone. You may require a bone grafting procedure as a result of tooth extraction, gum disease or other reasons. Because the bone helps to support the teeth and hold them in place, bone grafting can help provide a solid foundation for your existing teeth or strengthen a new dental implant.
What can I expect from a bone grafting procedure?
Oftentimes bone grafting is done in conjunction with tooth extraction. This means that the procedure can be accompanied by some level of soreness and discomfort. Your dentist will give you instructions on post-surgical care.
Are there different types of bone grafts?
Yes, there are different types of materials (donor and synthetic) and a wide variety of techniques that we use to best suit your specific needs. Most dental insurances will cover bone grafting.
